You know that feeling when your stomach starts to turn and (either out of anger or disgust) you feel like you’re going to be sick? Well that upchuck feeling is exactly how I felt this morning when over my coffee and morning news I read what the “party-confused” Tammy Bruce has to say about Michelle Obama.
Now folks, this is not a political post or a speech about what is good or bad with the President’s policies or direction he’s taking with the country. This is about decency and respect. As Tammy usually swims against the conservative party with her gay/lesbian and pro-choice views I was shock to hear her stoop to the disgustingly low level of calling the Obamas “trash in the White House.” When I read this Ann Coulter and gal pal Sarah Palin hunting libels with shotguns while reciting the Hail Mary flashed into my head. Holy Jesus, please don’t tell me we have another one of those crazies prancing around the media?!
I’m not sure if this was a sad attempt to gain more attention or a slip of the tongue, but the basic fact is derogative language like that is the complete reverse of what it means to be an American. We may not agree with each other, yet in no way does that mean we should throw insults or treat one another with such brazenness. There is such a fine line between politics and common decency and as a country we need to work harder to separate the two. If anything, Ms. Bruce out of respect for Sasha and Malia should have held her tongue. The 2009 election is over. Instead of bucking for the 2012 election already, maybe conservatives and liberals should be working together to save this deteriorating country. Just a thought….
