Time To Analyze Me

Since July 1993, the back page of Vanity Fair has been devoted to the Proust Questionnaire, in which a noteworthy person answers a series of personal questions. The questionnaire has its origins in a parlor game popularized (though not devised) by Marcel Proust (1871–1922), the French essayist and novelist, who believed that, in answering these questions, an individual reveals his or her true nature. - Vanity Fair

1. What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Life without heartache and suffering. Waking up each morning and seeing the world through new eyes. Yet not just for me, but for everyone. I don’t think perfect happiness can exist on a sole basis. That’s just narrow minded and selfish.

2. What is your greatest fear?
To watch my children suffer or lose their lives before my death.

3. What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
Stubbornness. I find it easier to cut others off rather than work though problems. I believe this is because I care too much. In the wake of an argument I am completely consumed in it, unable to think of anything else.

4. What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Naiveness. When people create strong opinions or beliefs without thorough knowledge of a topic.

5. Which living person do you most admire?
Dalai Lama. Throughout his struggles with oppression and exile he still remain optimistic and enlightened about the human race.

6. What is your greatest extravagance?
Camera equipment. I’ve seen the world through new eyes since picking up my first SLR. I find beauty in the dirty streets of New York and a simple shot can speak a 1,000 words. I’ve learned patience through photography.

7. What is your current state of mind?

Scared. Will I have a job next week? How will I support my family while my husband finishes up law school? How did our country let our financial markets get into such turmoil? Why?

8. What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Demureness. People should have the right to express themselves however they want. The body is beautiful and should be cherished and admired – not hidden based on society’s ever changing standards.

9. On what occasion do you lie?

Out of laziness or selfishness when I wish to avoid anger over breaking off plans or avoiding a prior commitment.

10. What do you most dislike about your appearance?
My stature. I feel l lack presence and grace. I am constantly reminding myself to sit up straight and to be poised.

11. Which living person do you most despise?

I don’t despise anyone. I try to center my life on the positive. Though the one person I completely disagree with in every regard (beliefs, morals, and life choices) would be Sarah Palin. No one should ever be in a position of power who cares so little for the environment or living things other than humans.

12. What is the quality you most like in a man?

Security. Not all men possess this though. I’ve definitely had a few losers in my life. No matter how crazed or unbalanced the world is around me, my husband always provides me with a sense of security and faith.

13. What is the quality you most like in a woman?
The ability to express emotions. A woman will always let you know exactly how they feel. Whether you truly accept that is another issue.

14. Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
Right. Right is the perfect filler.

15. What or who is the greatest love of your lif
e?
Edward. He showed me the difference between love and lust. Provided me with a sense of security and trust I’ve never known.

16. When and where were you happiest?
In my tiny apartment during play time with my animals. I truly believe one can learn so much from animals.

17. Which talent would you most like to have?

To be comfortable with public speaking. If I could speak like some of the greats - with such hope and inspiration - I feel like I could rule the world.

18. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
To be more spiritual. I do not believe in organized religion but I do believe in faith. I wish I had more time to devote to finding my spiritual side.

19. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Becoming a vegetarian/quasi-vegan. I’ve finally found a balance between my beliefs and eating habits.

20. If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?
A horse. Crazy I know, but I’ve been obsessed with these magnificent creatures my whole life.

21. Where would you most like to live?

Venice, Italy. Visiting there is just not enough.

22. What is your most treasured possession?
Nothing materialistic. My animals would have to be my most treasured possessions.

23. What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Being self absorb.

24. What is your favorite occupation?
Photographer.

25. What is your most marked characteristic?

I am very open minded. I believe in trying everything once and complete self expression.

26. What do you most value in your friends?
Honesty and dependability. I absolutely have the most wonderful, fantastic, amazing friends. I know they love me as much as I love them. I’ve weeded out all the superficial ones.

David Sedaris. Chuck Palahniuk. Hunter S. Thompson. Joe Hill.

28. Who is your hero of fiction?
