A Weekend Of Big Hats And Mint Juleps

It seems to be the year of women empowerment. Here we have a woman running for President, but more importantly Eight Belles is running in the Kentucky Derby. Now don’t get me wrong. A woman running for President is huge (even though I am voting for Obama), but Eight Belles is my Uncle Larry Jones’s horse. Last year Larry and Hard Spun went head to head with the best horses in the world and now this year he is looking to make history. Eight Belles will attempt to become the fourth filly to win the Kentucky Derby. That’s right; our girl is stepping up to the big boys of racing. She is the daughter of Unbridled’s Song and if she were to win on Saturday this would be the second year in a row a filly has won a Triple Crown event. Remember Rags to Riches last year? Eight Belles will be ridden by the fabulous Gabriel Saez who is a rising star in racing world.

Our other star is
Proud Spell who will be racing in the Kentucky Oaks the day before. Proud Spell will be in the 8 spot. She was initial invited to participate in the Derby, however, Larry thought the Oaks to be a better fit.

Needless to say this is going to be a BIG BIG BIG weekend for us. So please say a few prayers and tune into ESPN this weekend to watch the races! Thanks!
